Winterboard will Not Support iOS 7 Jailbreak

Home iOS 7 Jailbreak

iOS 7 is due to be released to the public later on in September, followed sometime after by the untethered jailbreak for the firmware.  As we all know, iOS 7 has been completely redesigned, not just in features but also in the user interface. The iOS UI has been completely torn apart and rebuilt, including brand new fonts, a new color scheme and lots of other things to make the experience more pleasant and friendly for consumers.

However, not everyone is happy with the way the firmware looks. Some are hanging their hopes on a jailbreak solution so that they can get rid of the iOS 7 look and change it for something better. Unfortunately, the future doesn’t look too bright for jailbreak themes, at least not for one of the main ones.

Winterboard creator, Saurik, has informed the jailbreak community that the theming tool is highly unlikely to support the new firmware. Here’s why:

The exclusion of Winterboard in the iOS 7 jailbreak could have a huge knock-on effect with other tweaks and themes. Dreamboard is still an option but, in the current version of Cydia, nearly all developers use Winterboard for their themes and tweaks.

At this stage, Saurik has made it clear that a final decision has not yet been made. With any luck, the developers and artists will take heed of his comments and will do what’s needed to make sure Winterboard survives. That said, bearing in mind just how different iOS 7 from any other firmware, there’s a good chance that quite a few tweaks won’t work straightaway anyway, if they do at all.

Will you still be upgrading to iOS 7, if your favorite tweaks and themes won’t be available in the jailbreak? Or will you stay where you are and hope something happens on the 6.1.3 jailbreak front ?

Us poor slobs stuck with 6.1.3 are never gonna see a jailbreak. Why would anyone bother?

My 4s is stuck with stock 6.1.3 (accidental forced upgrade), and I am not at all in a hurry to try the “upgrade” from 32-bit to 64-bit.

I have Macs and remember the horrors of leaving Snow Leopard for the flakey Mountain Lion… and the lack of application software.

Not gonna happen again, thanks. Especially not for some dancing icons and a new “look”.

Why the namecalling folks? People are here to discuss and ask questions, not get criticized.
