Ever since jailbreaking began in 2007, Cydia has been the backbone, the go-to place for all tweaks, mods, apps and themes. In the last 8 years, there have been several attempts at bringing out an alternative to Cydia but none has ever gone anywhere. There’s a new attempt out and it’s called iMods. Still in development, iMods first appeared in December 2014 and, at first looks, seems to be a clean and highly detailed attempt. Have a look for yourselves in the video below :

About iMods :
The video below gives a thorough walk-through on what iMods is all about and how to use it. What it doesn’t show is anything being installed and, given that there are already a couple of tweaks in there for testing purposes, it should have been possible to show us how it works. That may cast a cloud of skepticism over iMods, especially as this is just one of a long line of many pretenders to the throne.
That said, a respected but until now absent developer by the name of Comex has come on board to help build an alternative to Cydia Substrate so that may lend the team more of an air of credibility. Comex, for those who don’t know, was the only developer to build a jailbreak that didn’t require the use of a computer to install it.

The video below will give you some idea of what to expect with iMods and you can also check
back to our article the official website here [downloadimods.com – ext link] for more details as well. It should be noted that iMods will only have 1 source in it, doing away with the need to manually add repos. There will be no pirate tweaks and, one useful feature, iMods will only show you the tweaks that are compatible with your device and iOS version. And for those that like their themes, WinterBoard is not supported. Instead a new tool called Anemone will be in place.
